Privilege escalation via installer DLL search path
Published Jan 24, 2025 · Updated Feb 18, 2025
DLL hijacking in Silicon Laboratories USBXpress Development Kit 3.5.1 and earlier allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The impacted installer resolves a DLL through an uncontrolled search path, allowing a planted library to load when the installer runs. Exploitation requires local access and a user to run the impacted installer; the loaded library executes in the installer’s elevated context.
