CVE-2024-9490

Privilege escalation via installer DLL search path

Published Jan 24, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025

DLL hijacking in the Silicon Labs IDE installer 5.50 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code during installation. The installer searches an uncontrolled path for DLLs and loads a planted library, but Silicon Labs has not disclosed the DLL name or writable search location. Execution requires a user to run the affected Windows installer after the library is placed in a searched directory, enabling privilege escalation and code execution in the installer's context.
