Application crash via malformed XAR file
Published Oct 4, 2024 · Updated Oct 7, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in AVG/Avast Antivirus signatures before 24092400 allows local users to crash the macOS app with a malformed XAR file. The engine module dereferences a null pointer while parsing untrusted XAR input during file processing, terminating the application. Exploitation requires local delivery and processing of a malformed file on macOS; the reported consequence is an application crash without data disclosure or modification.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
