Root command execution via unescaped audit username

Published Nov 18, 2024 · Updated Aug 4, 2026

OS command injection in PAN-OS 10.1 through 11.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands with root privileges. AuditLog::write passes an administrator-controlled username to pan_elog through pexecute without shell-escaping it. Access to the management web interface as a PAN-OS administrator is required, and injected shell metacharacters run commands as root.
