Stored XSS via unsanitized SVG uploads
Published Nov 13, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Aquamarine Aqua SVG Sprite 3.0.14 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through SVG uploads. The plugin accepts SVG file content without sufficient sanitization and later serves it without output escaping, preserving attacker-controlled script in the uploaded image. Author-level access is required, and the script runs in a visitor's browser when the uploaded SVG file is accessed, enabling actions within that visitor's WordPress session.
