Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Oct 18, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Advanced Category and Custom Taxonomy Image 1.0.9 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via a shortcode. The ad_tax_image shortcode accepts user-supplied attributes without sufficient sanitization and emits them without adequate output escaping when a page renders. Contributor-level access is required to store the payload, which then executes in the browsers of users who visit the injected page.
