Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted user meta update
Published Nov 16, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in WordPress Video Robot 1.20.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain Administrator privileges. The wpvr_rate_request_result() function insufficiently restricts which user meta keys may be updated, allowing capability metadata to be rewritten. A WordPress account with subscriber-level access is required, and successful exploitation grants full site-administration authority.
