CVE-2024-9029Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via unsanitized IPTC profile length

Published Sep 27, 2024 · Updated Sep 27, 2024

Buffer over-read in FreeImage allows remote attackers to crash linked applications by supplying a crafted TIFF image. The read_iptc_profile loop compares offset with length - 1 and reads profile[offset+1] without first validating the IPTC profile length, permitting a one-byte heap over-read. Exploitation requires a linked application to process attacker-controlled TIFF metadata and interrupts only that application process.
