Stored XSS via unvalidated shortcode wrapper tags
Published Jan 18, 2025 · Updated Jan 22, 2025
Stored XSS in Fernando Briano's List Category Posts before 0.90.3 allows remote authenticated users to inject script through shortcode tags. The catlist renderer emits attacker-selected HTML wrapper tags such as author_tag and excerpt_tag around post data without adequate validation or escaping. Contributor-level access can store malicious shortcode content, and execution occurs when another user previews or views the resulting post or page.
