CVE-2024-8978Network attack vector

New-user credential theft via registration-email template injection

Published Nov 15, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026

Sensitive information exposure in Essential Addons for Elementor 6.0.9 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to steal new-user credentials. The init_content_register_user_email_controls function lets Contributors place username and password placeholders inside attacker-controlled HTML in registration emails, causing opened messages to transmit the substituted credentials to an external resource. Contributor-level access, an enabled Login | Register Form with custom email, and a registrant who opens the notification are required; exposure is limited to users registering through that widget.
