CVE-2024-8933Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Password-hash disclosure via cleartext UMAS project transfers

Published Nov 13, 2024 · Updated Nov 13, 2024

Cleartext credential exposure in Schneider Electric Modicon controllers allows attackers to capture project password hashes. UMAS project upload and download messages transfer the full APX binary without encryption, exposing its Base64-encoded password hash and salt. A passive position inside the logical network and a concurrent legitimate project transfer are required; the recovered values enable offline cracking or pass-the-hash access to a reserved controller session.
