CVE-2024-8880Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated OS command execution via recovery template injection

Published Sep 16, 2024 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Server-side template injection in playSMS 1.4.4 through 1.4.7 allows remote attackers to execute OS commands through password recovery. The recovery handler places the username field into a template, where a double-brace expression containing PHP backticks is evaluated and its command output is rendered. Access to the public recovery form, a session cookie, and its CSRF token is sufficient; successful commands run as the web-server account.
