Administrative takeover via predictable password recovery code
Published Sep 24, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Weak password recovery in Riello UPS NetMan 204 4.05 and earlier allows remote attackers to take administrative control over HTTP. The recovery endpoint discloses netmanid without authentication, while a fixed NMP-prefixed MD5/SHA-1 derivation makes its seven-character code computable. Submitting that code resets the administrator credentials to admin:admin, permitting full UPS control, including shutdown.
