Server hang via user-controlled regular expressions
Published Mar 20, 2025 · Updated Oct 15, 2025
Regular expression denial of service in Lunary before 1.4.23 allows remote attackers to hang the server with a crafted check pattern. The backend check runner compiled user-controlled regex values with JavaScript RegExp and tested them against run content, permitting exponential backtracking. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation makes the service unresponsive for an attacker-controlled duration.
