Unauthenticated code execution via registry path overwrite
Published Dec 2, 2024 · Updated Dec 2, 2024
Remote code execution in NmAPI.exe in Progress Software Corporation WhatsUp Gold before 2024.0.1 allows remote attackers to run code. The UpdateFailoverRegistryValues WCF operation accepts caller-supplied names and values, then writes them under an overly broad Ipswitch registry-path prefix. Unauthenticated access to port 9643 can redirect InstallDir to an attacker-controlled UNC share; code runs after the service or system restarts.
