CVE-2024-8645Public exploit

Process crash via stale SPRT port dispatch

Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2026

Denial of service in the SPRT dissector in Wireshark 4.0.0 through 4.0.15 and 4.2.0 through 4.2.5 allows attackers to crash the application. The dissector continues parsing version 2 G.711 RTP packets as SPRT after an SPRT session ends on the same UDP port, causing an invalid memory access. Triggering the crash requires injection of malformed live traffic or user interaction to open a crafted capture file, and the reported consequence is process termination only.
