Data exposure and crashes via unsafe XML parsing
Published Oct 14, 2024 · Updated Dec 18, 2024
XXE in Schweizerische Steuerkonferenz taxstatement.jar 2.2.2 and 2.2.4 allows attackers to trigger outbound requests via a crafted PDF. The library decodes XML from PDF barcodes and passes the bytes to a default DocumentBuilder without disabling DOCTYPE declarations or external entities. The target must parse the file; demonstrated effects are blind HTTP or SMB requests, NTLMv2 hash exposure, and an application crash, while file reads and command execution remain environment-dependent.
