CVE-2024-8533Network attack vector

Privilege escalation via readable credential files

Published Sep 12, 2024 · Updated Sep 12, 2024

Privilege escalation in Rockwell Automation OptixPanel and Embedded Edge Compute Module firmware allows attackers to gain elevated access. Default permissions on credential-bearing files allow unprivileged access to secrets that can be reused for elevation. Exploitation requires network reachability and user interaction; the exposed credentials enable elevated privileges on the affected appliance.
