Root command execution via recording filename injection
Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
OS command injection in VICIdial 2.14-917a allows remote authenticated users with agent access to execute shell commands as root. The manager_send.php recording action weakly filters its filename, which Asterisk adopts for recording files before AST_CRON_audio_1_move_VDonly.pl interpolates the name into shell commands. An authenticated agent must submit a crafted recording request and wait for the scheduled audio-move job, after which the injected commands run with root privileges.
