CVE-2024-8479Network attack vector

Unauthenticated shortcode execution via comment_text callback

Published Sep 14, 2024 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Arbitrary shortcode execution in Webliberty Simple Spoiler 1.2 through 1.3 allows remote attackers to invoke WordPress shortcodes through comments. The plugin registers WordPress's do_shortcode callback on comment_text, causing shortcode syntax in untrusted comment bodies to be parsed and dispatched. No authentication is required to submit the content; any additional data or service impact depends on shortcodes exposed by other installed components.
