CVE-2024-8453Network attack vector

Password recovery via unsalted weak hashes

Published Sep 30, 2024 · Updated Sep 30, 2024

Weak password hashing in PLANET Technology GS-4210-24PL4C and GS-4210-24P2S firmware allows remote authenticated users to recover passwords. The firmware writes user-password hashes into configuration files using an unsalted weak hash, enabling offline cracking of the stored values. Administrator privileges are required to read the configuration files; successful cracking discloses the corresponding plaintext passwords.
