CVE-2024-8445

Authenticated server crash via malformed password modification

Published Sep 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 6, 2025

Improper input validation in 389 Directory Server allows remote authenticated users to crash the server through a malformed userPassword change. In op_shared_modify(), a failed password-hashing path frees its value array without restoring the operation's modification list in the parameter block before cleanup. Reachability requires authenticated LDAP modification access, and successful exploitation interrupts the directory service without a reported confidentiality or integrity impact.
