CVE-2024-8260Public exploit

Net-NTLMv2 hash disclosure via accepted UNC paths

Published Aug 30, 2024 · Updated Aug 30, 2024

Improper UNC-path validation in Open Policy Agent before 0.68.0 on Windows allows local users to disclose Net-NTLMv2 hashes over SMB. The loader accepts an attacker-controlled UNC location where a Rego policy or bundle path is expected and asks Windows to open the remote share. Exploitation requires CLI argument control or a calling Go service that passes untrusted paths, plus outbound SMB on port 445; the captured hash supports relay or offline password cracking.
