Administrator escalation via unrestricted user meta update
Published Sep 11, 2024 · Updated Sep 11, 2024
Privilege escalation in PickPlugins Post Grid 2.2.87 through 2.2.90 allows remote authenticated users to become administrators. The front-end form handler passes user-controlled meta keys to update_user_meta() without restricting them to an administrator-approved allowlist or verifying that the form is active. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to write wp_capabilities, granting control of the WordPress site through an administrator account.
