Stored XSS via unescaped Twitter profile URL
Published Sep 30, 2024 · Updated Oct 1, 2024
Stored XSS in Squirrly Limited Starbox before 3.5.3 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts via a crafted Twitter URL. The plugin inserts the saved Twitter profile value into an HTML link attribute without sufficient sanitization or output escaping, so a quote can end the attribute and add an event handler. Contributor-level access is required to save the payload, and execution occurs when another user views the attacker's profile, a recent-post preview, or a page using the Starbox shortcode.
