Algorithmic complexity in affected GitLab CE/EE releases allows remote attackers to interrupt service via unauthenticated diff-file requests. The commit and merge-request diff renderers tokenize syntax-highlighted content outside the render timeout and impose no timeout on the full multi-file generation path. A public project with a sufficiently large commit or merge request supplies the gate; repeated low-rate requests can saturate CPUs and make the instance unreachable.
