Subscriber-level API key modification via missing authorization
Published Aug 27, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in Smash Balloon Reviews Feed 1.1.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to change stored API key options. The update_api_key function writes submitted API key values without checking whether the caller has the required WordPress capability. A Subscriber-level account is sufficient; the demonstrated consequence is limited to modifying the plugin’s API key settings.
