CVE-2024-8159Public exploit

Kernel-memory disclosure via attacker-controlled IOCTL byte count

Published Oct 3, 2024 · Updated Oct 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in Faronics Deep Freeze 9.00.020.5760 allows local users to disclose adjacent kernel memory through a driver request. The FarDisk.sys handler for IOCTL 0x70014 takes the second DWORD of a user-controlled SystemBuffer as the response byte count, causing the I/O manager to return data beyond the allocated buffer. A low-privileged local user can expose adjacent user and kernel addresses without user interaction, while no data modification is reported.
