CVE-2024-8158Network attack vector

Authenticated user impersonation via unchecked 9p username

Published Aug 25, 2024 · Updated Aug 26, 2024

Authorization bypass in 9front allows remote authenticated users to impersonate any filesystem user through crafted 9p requests. lib9p accepts the uname in Tauth and Tattach messages without matching it to the client UID returned by the factotum handshake. Exploitation requires a valid account on the configured authentication server and affects only experimental hjfs among the base file systems.
