Authenticated arbitrary file read via path traversal
Published Sep 4, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Path traversal in WP Extended 3.0.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary server files through an AJAX request. The download_file_ajax function uses an attacker-controlled file path without rejecting traversal or confining the resolved path to the intended directory. Subscriber-level access is sufficient, and exposure is limited to files readable by the WordPress server process.
