Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked option updates
Published Sep 4, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in WP Extended 3.0.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to elevate privileges through arbitrary option updates. The module_all_toggle_ajax() function writes attacker-controlled WordPress options without checking the caller's capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to enable registration, set the default role to Administrator, and obtain administrative access.
