System Admin escalation via unrestricted role permission edits
Published Aug 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2024
Improper access control in Mattermost allows remote authenticated users with role-editing access to gain System Admin privileges. The System Console role editor fails to restrict which roles can add the manage_system permission, allowing an authorized role editor to add it to an assigned role. Exploitation requires existing permission-section edit access and grants the resulting role full system-administration authority.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
