Device takeover via engineering-tool-only update verification
Published Oct 25, 2024 · Updated Oct 30, 2024
Improper signature verification in affected ABB substation products allows adjacent authenticated users to take control via crafted updates. Each product accepts firmware or configuration without independently checking authenticity and integrity, relying solely on verification by the engineering tool. Exploitation requires high privileges and user participation, and can also stop the node or render it inaccessible.
