CVE-2024-7986

Local arbitrary file read via directory junction

Published Aug 23, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024

Incorrect permissions in affected Rockwell Automation ThinManager ThinServer versions allow local users to read arbitrary files. The ThinServer service fails to restrict resources used for file operations, allowing a low-privileged process to create a directory junction that redirects a read to a target directory. Exploitation requires local low-privileged code execution and exposes files readable in the service's SYSTEM context without altering them.
