Admin-level stored XSS via unsafe settings handling

Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Sep 10, 2024

Stored XSS in Squirrly Limited Starbox before 3.5.2 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through plugin settings. The public record states only that some settings are neither sanitized when stored nor escaped when rendered; it does not identify the affected fields or code paths. Administrator privileges are required, and a second user must view the stored output; the flaw remains exploitable where unfiltered_html is disabled, including multisite deployments.
