CVE-2024-7834

SYSTEM privilege escalation via user-writable DLL search

Published Sep 4, 2024 · Updated Sep 4, 2024

Uncontrolled DLL search in Overwolf before 250.1.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges on Windows. On launch, a SYSTEM-context Overwolf process searches a user-writable folder and loads attacker-placed dynamic-link libraries. Unprivileged local access is sufficient to place a malicious DLL in that folder, yielding SYSTEM-level code execution when Overwolf starts.
