Secure Boot bypass via unrestricted firmware downgrade
Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Mar 28, 2025
Secure Boot bypass in Axis Communications AB AXIS OS 10.9 through 11.11 allows physically proximate attackers to defeat tamper protection. The protection fails to enforce a downgrade restriction, allowing older firmware into the boot path; Axis has withheld lower-level details. Physical access and affected hardware are required; successful exploitation bypasses Secure Boot and compromises firmware confidentiality and integrity without interrupting service.
