CVE-2024-7730Public exploit

Guest-to-host memory corruption via zero-length audio buffer

Published Nov 14, 2024 · Updated Nov 14, 2024

A heap buffer overflow in QEMU before 9.1.0 allows guest OS users to overwrite host-process memory through virtio-snd input. The virtio_snd_pcm_in_cb function treats buffer->size as a running total and writes audio without first ensuring that the receive iovec has remaining capacity. Reachability requires a configured virtio-snd input device and guest control of its receive queue, exposing the QEMU process to memory corruption.
