CVE-2024-7659Network attack vector

Password-reset token prediction via insecure rand()

Published Aug 11, 2024 · Updated Aug 13, 2024

Insufficient randomness in ProjectSend r1605 allows remote attackers to predict password-reset tokens through repeated generation attempts. The generate_random_string function in includes/functions.php builds tokens one character at a time with PHP rand(), which is not cryptographically secure. Exploitation requires overcoming high prediction complexity; a successful token guess exposes data available to the affected account.
