CVE-2024-7438Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated alert tampering via unchecked aid parameter

Published Aug 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 10, 2024

IDOR in Simple Machines Forum 2.1.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter alerts belonging to other users. The showalerts read, unread, and remove actions accept an attacker-selected aid value without verifying that the referenced alert belongs to the acting account. A low-privileged forum account and valid session token are required; exploitation can change another user's alert status or delete the alert.
