CVE-2024-7346Network attack vector

TLS host-name validation bypass via default certificates

Published Sep 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 3, 2024

Certificate validation in Progress OpenEdge 11.7.0 through 11.7.19 and 12.2.0 through 12.2.14 allows remote attackers to impersonate TLS servers. Installed legacy default CA certificates override host-name checks during client TLS handshakes instead of rejecting certificates issued for a different host. Exploitation requires a network position that can intercept the connection and an OpenEdge client using the installed default certificate store, enabling intercepted data to be read or altered.
