CVE-2024-7246Network attack vector

Peer-request disruption via persistent HPACK parse errors

Published Aug 6, 2024 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

HPACK parsing in gRPC allows remote attackers to disrupt peer requests and disclose other clients' HTTP header names over proxy connections. The HPACK parser retains an error status after a malformed binary header, so later incrementally indexed headers contaminate the shared dynamic table. Exploitation requires an attacker-controlled gRPC client routed through an HTTP/2 proxy; the bounded effects are failed requests and disclosure of header names, not values.
