CVE-2024-7237

SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link folder deletion

Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Dec 5, 2024

Link-following in AVG AntiVirus Free 23.12.8700.813 allows local users to escalate privileges through a crafted symbolic link. AVGSvc follows an attacker-created symbolic link and uses its privileged service context to delete the link target's folder. Low-privileged local code execution is required; controlled folder deletion enables arbitrary code execution as SYSTEM.
