CVE-2024-7230

SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link file deletion

Published Nov 22, 2024 · Updated Nov 25, 2024

Improper link resolution in the Avast Cleanup Service in Avast Cleanup Premium 23.4 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The service follows an attacker-created symbolic link when deleting a file, allowing its privileged deletion operation to target another file. Exploitation requires low-privileged code execution on the Windows host; successful abuse grants arbitrary code execution in the SYSTEM context.
