Administrator-level stored XSS via unescaped protection text
Published Apr 20, 2026 · Updated Apr 20, 2026
Stored XSS in Email Encoder – Protect Email Addresses and Phone Numbers before 2.3.4 allows administrators to execute scripts in visitors' browsers. The protection_text option accepts attacker-controlled markup without sufficient sanitization and emits it through protected shortcode content without context-aware escaping. An administrator or another user with plugin-settings access must save the payload, and a victim must view protected content; multisite sites or sites denying unfiltered_html remain exposed.
