Stored XSS via unescaped widget title
Published Aug 6, 2024 · Updated Oct 27, 2024
Stored XSS in Backup For WP Easy Table of Contents before 2.0.68 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in visitors’ browsers. The widget Title field stores attacker-supplied event-handler markup without proper filtering or output escaping, so the payload runs when a visitor hovers over the rendered widget. Editor-level access is sufficient to store the payload; its effects are limited to privileges and data exposed to the victim’s WordPress browser session.
