Stored XSS via unescaped validation messages
Published Nov 25, 2024 · Updated Nov 13, 2025
Stored XSS in WPForms Lite before 1.9.1.6 allows remote authenticated users with Administrator access to execute scripts in users' browsers. The Required validation-message setting stores HTML without sanitization or output escaping, and an empty required-field submission renders the payload. Administrator access is required, and the flaw affects multisite or other installations that disable unfiltered_html; execution occurs when a user submits a form with an empty required field.
