CVE-2024-7055Network attack vector

Out-of-bounds read via overflowed PFM size check

Published Aug 6, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in FFmpeg 7.0.0 and 7.0.1 allows remote attackers to read beyond a PFM input buffer through a crafted file. In pnm_decode_frame, the full-float PFM size check multiplies width, height, and 12 as a 32-bit integer, so overflow lets a truncated packet pass validation before the decoder reads 12 bytes per pixel. The path requires a user or application to decode the crafted PFM input; the invalid read exposes adjacent process memory or terminates the decoding process.
