Local file disclosure via resolved XML entities
Published Jul 21, 2024 · Updated Nov 25, 2024
XXE in Guardrails AI Guardrails before 0.5.0 allows remote attackers to read local files through externally supplied RAIL documents. Guard.from_rail_string reaches rail_string_to_schema, whose lxml parser resolves SYSTEM entities embedded in untrusted XML. Exploitation requires an application to accept attacker-controlled RAIL content; resolved file data can enter prompts and be returned in model output.
