CVE-2024-6914Network attack vector

Account takeover via empty challenge-answer verification

Published May 22, 2025 · Updated Aug 27, 2025

Incorrect authorization in WSO2 products allows remote attackers to reset any account password through an exposed SOAP admin service. The ChallengeQuestionProcessor.verifyUserChallengeAnswers method leaves verification successful when no challenge answers are supplied, allowing recovery without proving account ownership. Exploitation requires the deprecated UserInformationRecoveryService under /services to be reachable; success enables takeover of any account, including an administrator.
